[ Where the work comes from in Conroe ]

Conroe is the county seat of Montgomery County, about forty miles north of Houston on I-45, and it has two sides. There is an older town with a courthouse square and a long history, and there is a ring of newer subdivisions and lake communities around Lake Conroe. A trade here serves both, and the two kinds of customer ask for different things.

The pine forest begins here in earnest, and the Sam Houston National Forest lies to the north. That means tall trees close to houses, so tree services are busy after every wind event, and roofs and gutters collect needles and limbs. Lakefront and lake-view homes add boat docks, bulkheads and electrical work that is particular to the water.

Conroe is a separate search from The Woodlands, only a short drive south, and from Spring. The metro overview is on the Houston page.

[ What this means for a trade in Conroe ]

Conroe is the county seat of Montgomery County, about 40 miles north of Houston, and it is named for Isaac Conroe, a lumberman who started a sawmill here in 1881. The settlement was first called Conroe's Switch, and workers came for the lumber industry that harvested the local piney woods. In 1931 George Strake discovered the Conroe Oil Field, and by 1935 it had produced 40 million barrels of oil. Oil money briefly gave the city more millionaires per capita than any other U.S. city. After Interstate 45 was built, many Houstonians followed the highway to new suburbs around Conroe. Lake Conroe, a reservoir of about 19,640 acres, was created by a dam in 1973 to give Houston an alternative source of drinking water. Conroe sits in the southwest corner of the Piney Woods, where pine trees and hardwood forest meet the edge of the city.

[ One business per trade per area ]

The top package takes one business per trade per area. Conroe is far enough from Houston that the area is its own, and a company here is rarely competing with one in the city. If your trade is already held, we tell you. See the packages.
